Wenn ich Kinder sehe, die Tauben jagen, stoppe ich sie, auch wenn die Eltern daneben stehen und dabei zusehen. Ich erkläre den Kindern, dass es "uncool" ist, Tauben zu jagen. Dass sie wie alle anderen Tiere auch fühlende Lebewesen sind und sie (die Kinder) ja auch nicht gejagt werden möchten. Sie nicken dann meist und hörten immer auf. Es heisst: Wehret den Anfängen! Zuerst werden Tauben gejagt, dann Igel als Fußball benutzt (gab es alles schon und Schlimmeres!) und was kommt dann? Wenn keine Grenzen aufgezeigt werden.

Most pigeons foraging in Munich are malnourished, that is, on the verge of starvation, or, at best, merely thin. This condition can be identified by palpating the breastbone; unfortunately, their feathers conceal this pitiful state. Anyone who still refers to pigeons as "rats of the air" thereby reveals a lack of knowledge regarding these birds. Those who take the time to look more closely at them quickly discover that they possess extraordinary abilities. To list them all here would go beyond the scope of this text.

Whenever I see children chasing pigeons, I stop them, even if their parents are standing right there watching. I explain to the children that chasing pigeons is "uncool," that-like all other animals, they are sentient beings, and that the children themselves wouldn't want to be chased, either. They usually nod in agreement and have always stopped. As the saying goes: Nip it in the bud! First, pigeons are chased; then, hedgehogs are used as soccer balls (all of which has happened before, and worse!); and what comes next if no boundaries are established?
